3 Ways to Raise Scam-Smart Kids
- Teach Kids to Stop Before They Click. Scammers create urgency with messages like “Act now!” or “You won!” Remind kids to pause and check with an adult before clicking or responding.
- Explain What Information Is Private. Passwords, addresses, phone numbers, banking information, and login codes should never be shared online without a parent’s permission.
- Make “Tell Me” the Family Rule. Let kids know they can always come to you if they receive a strange message or accidentally click something online.
ACTIVITY: SCAM MONSTERS – STAY SAFE ONLINE!
Kids will meet five Scam Monsters, match each monster to its online trick, spot the red flags in suspicious messages, and create their own safety plan.

3 Ways to Teach Kids Smart Debit Card Habits
- Talk About Keeping Pins Private. Explain that a pin is like a secret password that protects their money and should never be shared with friends.
- Help them Track Spending. Remind kids that a debit card uses money in their account. Watching balances together can help them learn to spend only what they have.
- Discuss Safe ATM Use. Encourage kids to use your financial institution’s ATMs when possible and talk about how to avoid unnecessary fees.
Debit cards are convenient, but they also introduce kids to real financial responsibility. Continue the conversation about smart spending with more from My First Nest Egg
